How we can help

Connecting large-scale generation equipment

We want to make it as easy as possible for renewable energy projects, such as solar farms and wind turbines, to get connected.

We’re here to help if you’re planning to install electricity generation at your site, even if you won’t be exporting power to the grid.

It’s important you let us know before you commission or install any large-scale generation equipment, so we can check it meets safety standards and it won’t overload our electricity network.

We’ll also need to carry out checks on our network and the regional network belonging to the DNO.

If we – or the regional network operator – need to upgrade our networks to accommodate your equipment, you may need to pay towards the cost of this work.

G98 and G99 applications

How to apply

Depending on the size of the generating equipment that you want to connect to our network, you’ll need to notify us of your plans using a G98 application form or a G99 application form.

These are industry-standard documents, which are produced by the Energy Networks Association (ENA).

Both these forms are available on the ENA website, as well as more information about distributed generation connection requirements.

G98 applications

You need to submit a G98 application if you want to connect micro-generation and storage systems up to 3.68kW (16A)

G99 applications

You need to submit a G99 application if you want to connect large-scale generation or storage systems over 3.68kW (16A)

Once you’ve completed the relevant G98 or G99 application, please use this form to send us your information.

If you’ve got any questions about connecting generation equipment to our network or you’re not sure which application form to complete, feel free to contact us using this form too.
