Job purpose
At mua Group, we’re both an independent distribution network operator (IDNO) for electricity and an independent gas transporter (IGT) for gas. We don’t own the gas or electricity, but we collect a fee from the energy supplier for safely and reliably delivering their gas and electricity to homes and businesses through our pipes and cables.
We’ve also expanded into the water sector, adopting water and wastewater networks across England and Wales as a regulated NAV company.
We’re looking for a Senior Asset Engineer to oversee the design process of new electricity, gas and water networks. You’ll liaise with our developer and ICP clients to ensure new networks, and points of connection into our existing networks, meet all the relevant engineering and safety requirements.
About mua
We’re an independent electricity and gas distribution network operator, connecting homes and businesses to essential energy infrastructure. We’re also a regulated water and wastewater company, adopting water and wastewater networks across Britain.
Our mission at mua is to help build better and more sustainable places to live and work, by adopting and operating multi-utility networks nationwide. We’re supporting the UK’s transition to net zero by delivering energy through our networks in the simplest, smartest and greenest way possible.
What we require
Role responsibilities
In this role, you will oversee the design of our multi-utility networks including new connections, capacity increases and generation applications.
As our Senior Asset Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Client and project liaison: Meeting with our developer and construction partner clients to understand their project requirements for new electricity, gas and water infrastructure, and advise on relevant engineering standards and policies to shape project design.
- Design approvals: Reviewing and approving designs for new utility connections in line with our SLAs. This will include assessing complex LV/HV distribution networks powering large multi-phase developments, as well as G98/G99 and G100 generation applications.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Working closely with teams across the business to ensure we’re delivering an exceptional end-to-end asset adoption experience for all our clients.
- Regulatory compliance: Ensuring robust processes are in place to document our compliance with our distribution licences and industry codes.
- Out-of-hours operational support: Participating in our out-of-hours standby rota, providing operational support for electricity and gas faults and emergencies.
Knowledge, skills & experience
We’re looking for a Senior Asset Engineer with extensive experience in the utility sector.
- Design experience: You’ll have five to 10 years’ experience working within utility distribution network design. You’ll must have proven knowledge of designing electricity distribution networks, and preferably gas or water networks too.
- Technical knowledge: You’ll have good working knowledge of the CDM regulations and the role of the Principal Designer. You’ll also have general knowledge of electricity, gas or water network construction.
- Operational knowledge: You’ll be familiar with network operations, maintenance, non-conformance reporting and fault analysis.
- Qualifications: You’ll have relevant engineering and health and safety competencies and qualifications, such as City & Guilds accreditation. If you’re not already a Chartered Engineer, we can support you with your professional registration.
- Communication skills: As well as having excellent written and verbal communication skills, you’ll be able to build effective and trusted relationships with clients, colleagues and stakeholders.
