Hatton Cross is the first of 25 new ultra-rapid EV charging hubs being built in London by Fastned and Places for London.

Project overview

Hatton Cross Station is on the Piccadilly line of the London Underground, just minutes from Heathrow Airport.

The station’s EV charging hub has capacity for 12 vehicles to charge at once at the ultra-rapid charging bays, supporting both local drivers and those travelling to and from the airport.

Hatton Cross is the first of 25 EV charging hubs to be developed by Fastned and Places for London. The joint venture between the EV charging operator and Transport for London’s (TfL) property company will see a new ultra-rapid EV charging network rolled out across the city.

At mua, we’re proudly adopting the electricity infrastructure powering the Hatton Cross EV charging hub.

The challenge

Accessibility is key at the Hatton Cross EV hub. Fastned and Places for London are committed to making charging accessible, comfortable and safe for everyone – whatever the weather.

At Hatton Cross, this meant all the bays are extra wide and two bays are fully accessible in line with the latest British Standard Institute guidance.

The EV chargers at Hatton Cross Station are also protected by Fastned’s iconic yellow solar canopies. The solar canopies are integral to the hub design to provide shelter from the elements, as well as lighting the hub so drivers can charge safely any time of day or night.

These design requirements meant our network needed to be carefully planned to maximise the space for bays and canopies.

Our solution

We worked closely with the project delivery team to ensure our electricity infrastructure supported the Hatton Cross hub’s inclusive, user‑focused design.

To accommodate larger‑than‑average bays and solar canopies, we were able to adopt LV cables that allow for a more compact site while maintaining the capacity required for ultra‑rapid charging.

Our approach included:

  • Careful routing and positioning of our network assets to maximise bay space and pedestrian routes
  • Ensuring the infrastructure met adoptable standards while preserving the clean, open look and feel of the hub

By adopting the infrastructure, we’ve taken on responsibility for the operation, maintenance and resilience of the electricity network, giving Fastned and Places for London confidence that the site will continue to perform as expected as EV demand grows.
