The NEC Birmingham Gigahub is one of the largest electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs in Europe.
Project overview
The NEC Birmingham Gigahub hosts 16 ultra-fast 300kW DC chargers and 150 fast 7kW AC chargers, with designated accessible bays. Located at the heart of the national motorway network, the site is also home to a Starbucks Coffee drive thru.
With the range of charging speeds and onsite convenience services, motorists have a choice of charging options to suit their needs.
At mua, we’re proud to be part of this groundbreaking project, appointed as the independent distribution network operator (IDNO) to adopt the electricity network powering the Gigahub.
The challenge
In designing our electricity network on the site for our EV charging infrastructure development partner the EV Network, it was important to maximise space for chargers and minimise the space taken up by electrical infrastructure, so that as many people as possible can charge at the site.
Our solution
Our innovative design solution meant we successfully minimised the footprint of our electrical infrastructure to maximise the space for chargers, with space for 180 electric vehicles to charge simultaneously.
