What we do

A long-term utility partner

We commission utility networks that will last for generations to come. When we adopt your electricity infrastructure, we’ll own and operate the asset for you for its entire lifecycle.

Installing your infrastructure

We work with your preferred NERS-accredited independent connection provider, who will install your electricity infrastructure.

Adopting your infrastructure

We adopt last-mile electricity assets up to 132kV, including primary substations, connecting battery storage sites to distribution and transmission networks.

Operating your infrastructure

We provide peace of mind that your supply is secure and reliable with 24/7 remote monitoring and emergency response.

Who we are

About mua

We’re an independent distribution network operator (IDNO), operating electricity infrastructure powering battery energy storage systems.

We’re licensed by the energy regulator Ofgem to adopt, operate and maintain electricity networks that connect battery storage sites to regional distribution networks nationwide.

Unlike local distribution network operators (DNOs), we offer competitive asset value contributions to adopt the new electricity infrastructure at your site.

By reducing your upfront capex costs, our investment could help your project become commercially viable.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How do battery energy storage sites work?

Battery storage helps balance demand on local electricity networks. Typically, the batteries charge overnight when demand on the network is lower. This stops renewable energy from being wasted when it’s not needed and increases energy security.

The stored energy is released back to the grid when demand from homes and businesses is high.

Why should I choose an IDNO to energise my battery storage site?

We’re licensed by the energy regulator Ofgem to own and operate electricity networks powering battery energy storage sites. We’ll maintain the new local network for its entire lifecycle.

Unlike local distribution network operators, we offer competitive asset value contributions to adopt new connections to BESS projects.
