We’ve already experienced some record-breaking temperatures this summer and the Met Office is predicting more exceptionally high temperatures over the coming months.
During hot weather and heatwaves, it’s easy for us to use more water than we need.
But together, we can all play our part in saving water this summer with these simple tips:
- Keep a jug of water in the fridge. Instead of running the tap for cold water, you’ll have cold water ready whenever you need it.
- Cover up the paddling pool instead of refilling it each time. You can also reuse the water on the garden afterwards.
- Swap the hose for a watering can. This can save as much as 150 litres of water, which is the same as two baths!
- Water your plants when it’s cooler. Watering early in the morning or late in the evening stops the water from evaporating, so your plants feel the benefit.
By only using what you need in the home and garden over the coming months, we can help avoid restrictions later in the summer. Small water-saving changes at home really can make a big difference.
